An often overlooked part of hunting, especially for those not raised in hunting families, is how clean the animal protein deer provide truly can be. Venison comes from deer living in the wild eating an organic diet and carrying out a lifestyle that could be described as “happy,” in whitetail terms. No factory farming here!
When hunters kill deer, they typically do it locally. That reduces the pollution associated with transporting meat from one side of the continent to the other. Plus, nearly every part of the deer can be used. State wildlife agencies, working in concert with hunting groups, created management plans to ensure just the right amount of deer are killed each season.
If that weren’t enough, the license fees hunters pay each season go into dedicated state funds that set aside habitat for deer. These programs benefit every other species in the deer woods, and they protect wild areas from human development for generations to come.
