This is a classic motocross review of Harley-Davidson’s 1978 MX-250 motocross racer. For a brief time in the 1970s, AMF/Harley-Davidson attempted to expand into the motocross market and produced two limited runs of motocross machines. The first in 1975 was more of a design exercise with the 1878 version being the more legitimate production offering. While the 1978 MX-250 was fairly competitive, it suffered from lackluster dealer support and a fair amount of internal political struggling within AMF/Harley. In the end, lackluster sales led Harley to shut down their motocross program after the end of the 1978 season.
